This project was created in my role as UI Designer. The brief was to create a simple design which would be intuitive on both Windows and OS X. Alongside this, interfaces for a full-featured Android version of the same app were to be created.
The messaging app was designed to work on top of the SAFE Network, which is a distributed P2P network which aims to protect users privacy and keep their data secure. All messages and contacts in the app would be fully encrypted before leaving the users computer using the SAFE Network.
With these considerations in mind, we wanted to create a way of intelligently displaying contacts and settled on giving each of your contacts a unique colour id. Any time your contact appeared, whether in group chat, chat list or notifications, their colour id was used and displayed. This allowed us to intuitively show which contacts were in a group just by the colour ids and also gave us a means to show ‘private notifications’ which would omit any message or contact details and display only the contact colour and message count.
